Indication
Proton pump inhibitor used to reduce gastric acid production. Indicated for gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD), and as part of H. pylori eradication therapy.
Ingredients
- Lansoprazole 30 mg
Direction
As directed by the physician. Swallow whole, do not chew or crush.
Side effects
- Common: headache
- diarrhea
- nausea
- abdominal pain
- constipation
- flatulence.
- Less common: dizziness
- dry mouth
- fatigue
- rash.
- Rare: hypomagnesaemia with prolonged use
- Clostridioides difficile
- associated diarrhea.
- Very rare: severe skin reactions (Stevens
- Johnson syndrome)
- hepatitis
- interstitial nephritis.
Precautions
- Not recommended for patients with known hypersensitivity to lansoprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
- Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment
- dose reduction may be required.
- Long
- term use may reduce magnesium and vitamin B12 levels
- monitor accordingly.
- May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy
- exclude malignancy before starting therapy.
- Concomitant use with methotrexate may increase methotrexate levels.
- May reduce the absorption of drugs dependent on gastric pH (e.g.
- ketoconazole
- atazanavir).
- Keep out of reach of children.
