Indication
Allopurinol is indicated for the main clinical manifestations of urate/uric acid deposition, including chronic gout, hyperuricaemia, urate nephropathy, and uric-acid stones. It is also indicated for the management of 2,8-dihydroxyadenine (2,8-DHA) renal stone and recurrent mixed calcium oxalate renal stones.

Side effects
- Skin rash (may be severe)
- Gastrointestinal upset including nausea and diarrhoea
- Headache
- Elevated liver enzymes
- Hypersensitivity syndrome (rare but serious)
Precautions
- Discontinue immediately at the first appearance of a skin rash or other signs of hypersensitivity
- Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment

- Maintain adequate fluid intake during therapy
- Read the accompanying instructions carefully before use
