Glucophage 1000 mg

Indication

Glucophage (metformin hydrochloride) is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate glycaemic control. It may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents including insulin.

Ingredients

• Metformin hydrochloride 1000 mg (equivalent to 780 mg metformin base)

Direction

Oral use. Take with or after meals. Follow the dose prescribed by the physician. Before any use, read the enclosed leaflet carefully.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and abdominal discomfort
• Diarrhoea
• Loss of appetite
• Metallic taste
• Vitamin B12 deficiency with long
• term use
• Lactic acidosis (rare but serious)

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment
• acute heart failure
• or severe hepatic impairment
• Stop temporarily before administration of iodinated contrast media and major surgery
• Avoid excessive alcohol intake during treatment
• Prescription only medicine
• do not exceed the stated dose
• Consult a doctor or pharmacist before use
• stop and seek advice if irritation or allergy occurs
