Indication
Combination used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels; atenolol is a beta-blocker that slows heart rate and reduces cardiac workload.
Ingredients
- Amlodipine Besilate
- Atenolol
Direction
Adults: One tablet (Amlodipine 5 mg / Atenolol 50 mg) once daily, or as directed by a physician. Take with or without food, at the same time each day. Do not stop abruptly.
Side effects
- Amlodipine component: oedema
- flushing
- headache
- dizziness
- palpitations.
- Atenolol component: bradycardia
- fatigue
- cold extremities
- hypotension
- bronchospasm.
- Combined: dizziness
- fatigue
- peripheral oedema.
- Rare: severe bradycardia
- heart block
- worsening heart failure.
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to amlodipine
- atenolol
- or other beta
- blockers.
- Contraindicated in cardiogenic shock
- decompensated heart failure
- sick sinus syndrome
- AV block (2nd or 3rd degree)
- severe bradycardia
- and severe bronchial asthma or COPD.
- Do not stop atenolol abruptly — taper gradually to avoid rebound hypertension or angina.
- Monitor renal function in patients with renal impairment.
- Beta
- blockers may mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia in diabetic patients.
- Use with caution during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Keep out of reach of children.
