Indication
Used to treat mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Benzoyl peroxide has antibacterial activity against Cutibacterium acnes (Propionibacterium acnes) and also has mild keratolytic (skin-peeling) properties that help unblock pores.
Ingredients
- Benzoyl Peroxide
Direction
Adults and adolescents: Apply a thin layer to the affected area once or twice daily after cleansing. Start with once daily to assess tolerance. Leave on; do not rinse. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and mucous membranes.
Side effects
- Very common (at start): dryness
- peeling
- redness
- mild burning or stinging of skin.
- Common: skin irritation.
- Uncommon: contact dermatitis (allergic reaction) — stop use if severe rash develops.
- Rarely: severe localised oedema or urticaria.
Precautions
- Avoid contact with eyes
- eyelids
- lips
- mucous membranes
- and neck area.
- May cause bleaching of hair
- clothing
- and bedding — keep away from coloured fabrics.
- May cause excessive skin dryness
- peeling
- and irritation
- especially at start of therapy.
- Do not use on damaged or sunburned skin.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen during treatment.
- Do not apply near open flame — benzoyl peroxide is flammable when dry.
- Do not combine with retinoids without medical advice.
- Keep out of reach of children.
