Indication
Amlotel (Amlodipine 5 mg + Telmisartan 40 mg) is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with either agent alone. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker; telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).
Ingredients
- Amlodipine
- Telmisartan
Direction
Adults: One tablet once daily, with or without food. Take at the same time each day. Do not crush or chew; swallow whole.
Side effects
- Peripheral oedema (ankle swelling) — common.
- Dizziness
- headache — common.
- Diarrhoea
- nausea — common.
- Hypotension (low blood pressure) — uncommon.
- Elevated serum potassium (hyperkalaemia) — uncommon.
- Renal impairment — rare.
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to amlodipine
- telmisartan
- or any component of the tablet.
- Contraindicated in pregnancy (telmisartan can cause fetal harm
- especially in the second and third trimesters).
- Contraindicated in patients with biliary obstructive disorders or severe hepatic impairment.
- Do not use concurrently with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
- Monitor renal function
- electrolytes (potassium)
- and blood pressure regularly.
- Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis.
- May cause hypotension
- especially after the first dose in volume
- depleted patients.
- Avoid potassium supplements or potassium
- sparing diuretics without medical advice.
- Keep out of reach of children.
