Indication
Allergyl Syrup (Promethazine 0.1%) is a first-generation antihistamine used to relieve allergic conditions including allergic rhinitis, urticaria (hives), angioedema, insect bites, and skin allergies. It is also used as an antiemetic for nausea and vomiting, and as a short-term sedative.
Ingredients

Direction
Adults: 10–20 ml (25–50 mg) at bedtime or 5–10 ml 2–3 times daily as directed. Children 5–10 years: 5–10 ml at bedtime. Children 2–5 years: 2.5–5 ml at bedtime. Always use the measuring device provided. Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Side effects
- Sedation
- drowsiness — very common.
- Dry mouth
- blurred vision
- urinary retention
- constipation — common (anticholinergic effects).
- Dizziness
- headache — common.
- Extrapyramidal reactions (tremor
- muscle stiffness) — uncommon.
- Hypotension
- tachycardia — uncommon.
- Photosensitivity
- skin rash — rare.
Precautions
- Do not use in children under 2 years — risk of fatal respiratory depression.
- Do not use if allergic to promethazine or phenothiazines.
- Causes significant sedation — do not drive or operate heavy machinery.
- Avoid alcohol during treatment.
- Use with caution in patients with asthma
- epilepsy
- glaucoma
- urinary retention
- or liver disease.
- Do not use with MAO inhibitors.
- Use with caution in elderly patients (increased risk of confusion and extrapyramidal effects).
- Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Keep out of reach of children.
