Indication

AMOKLAVIN-BID suspension (Amoxicillin 200 mg + Clavulanic acid 28 mg per 5 ml) is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic combination used to treat bacterial infections in children, including otitis media (ear infection), sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin/soft tissue infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms.

Direction

Children: Dose is based on body weight, typically 25–45 mg/kg/day of amoxicillin component, divided every 12 hours (BID formulation). Reconstitute powder with water to the marked line and shake well before each use. Take with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed.

  • Candidal overgrowth (oral thrush or vaginal yeast infection) — common.
  • Elevated liver enzymes (ALT

  • Allergic reactions
  • including anaphylaxis — rare but serious.
Precautions
  • Do not use if allergic to penicillins
  • cephalosporins
  • or any beta
  • lactam antibiotic.
  • Obtain a history of allergic reactions before prescribing.
  • Can cause serious hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylaxis) — seek immediate medical help if rash
  • swelling
  • or difficulty breathing occurs.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal impairment (dose adjustment required).
  • May cause Clostridium difficile
  • associated diarrhoea — contact doctor if severe diarrhoea develops.
  • Monitor liver function with prolonged use
  • hepatotoxicity has been reported.
  • May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
