Indication
AMOKLAVIN-BID 625 mg (Amoxicillin 500 mg + Clavulanic acid 125 mg) is a broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic combination used to treat adults and children with bacterial infections including community-acquired pneumonia, acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, sinusitis, otitis media, urinary tract infections, and skin/soft tissue infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms.
Ingredients
- Amoxicillin
- Clavulanic Acid
Direction
Adults: One 625 mg tablet twice daily (BID) with meals. Duration depends on the infection type as directed by a physician. Swallow whole with water. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea
- nausea
- vomiting — very common.
- Abdominal pain — common.
- Skin rash
- urticaria — common.
- Candidal overgrowth (oral or vaginal) — common.
- Elevated liver enzymes — uncommon.
- Anaphylaxis — rare but serious.
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to penicillins
- cephalosporins
- or any beta
- lactam antibiotic.
- Obtain history of allergic reactions before prescribing.
- Can cause serious hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis.
- Use with caution in renal impairment — dose interval adjustment required.
- May cause Clostridium difficile
- associated diarrhoea.
- Monitor liver function
- hepatotoxicity reported especially in older males and with prolonged use.
- May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives.
- Keep out of reach of children.
