Indication
Betaloc ZOK 25 (Metoprolol Succinate 25 mg extended-release) is a cardioselective beta-1 blocker used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), stable chronic heart failure, angina pectoris, and certain arrhythmias. It reduces heart rate and blood pressure by blocking the effects of adrenaline on the heart.

Direction
Adults: The usual dose for hypertension and angina is 25–200 mg once daily. For heart failure, start at 12.5–25 mg once daily and increase gradually. Swallow whole without crushing or chewing, with or without food. Take at the same time each day.
Side effects
- Fatigue
- dizziness
- bradycardia — common.
- Cold extremities
- headache — common.
- Depression
- sleep disturbances — uncommon.
- Bronchospasm in asthmatic patients — uncommon.
- Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea
- diarrhoea) — uncommon.
- Heart failure exacerbation if initiated at high doses — rare.
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with cardiogenic shock
- uncompensated heart failure
- sick sinus syndrome (without pacemaker)
- second
- or third
- degree AV block
- or severe bradycardia.
- Do not abruptly discontinue — taper the dose gradually to avoid rebound hypertension or angina.
- Use with caution in asthma or COPD (may cause bronchospasm
- though less than non
- selective beta blockers).
- May mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia in diabetic patients.
- Caution in patients with peripheral vascular disease
- Raynaud's syndrome
- or phaeochromocytoma.
- Interactions with calcium channel blockers (verapamil
- diltiazem)
- antiarrhythmics
- and other antihypertensives.
- Keep out of reach of children.
