Indication
Ascoril Expectorant is a combination syrup used to relieve symptoms of productive cough, bronchospasm, and chest congestion in conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory tract infections. Bromhexine is a mucolytic; guaifenesin is an expectorant; terbutaline is a bronchodilator.
Ingredients
- Bromhexine
- Guaifenesin
- Terbutaline
Direction
Adults: 10 ml three times daily. Children 6–12 years: 5 ml three times daily. Children 2–6 years: 2.5 ml three times daily. Or as directed by a physician. Shake well before use. Take after meals.
Side effects
- Tremor
- palpitations
- tachycardia — common (terbutaline effect).
- Nausea
- gastrointestinal discomfort — common.
- Headache
- dizziness — uncommon.
- Hypokalaemia with high doses of terbutaline — uncommon.
- Allergic reactions — rare.
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to any active ingredient.
- Use with caution in patients with heart disease
- hypertension
- hyperthyroidism
- or diabetes (due to terbutaline).
- Terbutaline may cause tremor and palpitations.
- Do not use with other beta
- agonists without medical advice.
- Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
- Keep out of reach of children.
