Indication

Ascoril Expectorant is a combination syrup used to relieve symptoms of productive cough, bronchospasm, and chest congestion in conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and other respiratory tract infections. Bromhexine is a mucolytic; guaifenesin is an expectorant; terbutaline is a bronchodilator.

Ingredients
  • Bromhexine
  • Guaifenesin
  • Terbutaline
Direction

Adults: 10 ml three times daily. Children 6–12 years: 5 ml three times daily. Children 2–6 years: 2.5 ml three times daily. Or as directed by a physician. Shake well before use. Take after meals.

Side effects
  • Tremor
  • palpitations
  • tachycardia — common (terbutaline effect).
  • Nausea
  • gastrointestinal discomfort — common.
  • Headache
  • dizziness — uncommon.
  • Hypokalaemia with high doses of terbutaline — uncommon.
  • Allergic reactions — rare.
Precautions
  • Do not use if allergic to any active ingredient.
  • Use with caution in patients with heart disease
  • hypertension
  • hyperthyroidism
  • or diabetes (due to terbutaline).
  • Terbutaline may cause tremor and palpitations.
  • Do not use with other beta
  • agonists without medical advice.
  • Consult a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
