AMPICICLOX Ampicillin 250 mg / Cloxacillin 250 mg

Indication

AMPICICLOX (Ampicillin 250 mg + Cloxacillin 250 mg) is a broad-spectrum combination penicillin antibiotic. Ampicillin provides activity against gram-negative organisms; cloxacillin provides activity against penicillinase-producing staphylococci. Used for mixed infections including respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and bone/joint infections.

Direction

Adults: One capsule (500 mg total) 4 times daily, 30–60 minutes before meals. Children 2–10 years: half the adult dose. Duration as directed by a physician, typically 5–10 days. Complete the full course.

Side effects

• Diarrhoea
• nausea
• vomiting — common.
• Skin rash
• urticaria — common.
• Candidal overgrowth — common.
• Anaphylaxis — rare but serious.
• Hepatotoxicity — rare.

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to penicillins or any beta
• lactam antibiotic.
• History of allergy to cephalosporins — cross
• reactivity possible.
• Can cause serious hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis.
• Use with caution in renal impairment.
• May cause Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea.
• May reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives.
• Keep out of reach of children.
