Indication
Betastad 5 (Bisoprolol Fumarate 5 mg) is a cardioselective beta-1 blocker used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), stable chronic heart failure (in combination with other heart failure treatments), and angina pectoris.
Ingredients
- Bisoprolol Fumarate
Direction
Adults: For hypertension and angina: 5–10 mg once daily, titrated up to 20 mg if needed. For heart failure: start at 1.25 mg once daily and titrate slowly every 1–2 weeks based on tolerance (maximum 10 mg). Take once daily, with or without food.
Side effects
- Fatigue
- dizziness
- bradycardia — common.
- Cold extremities — common.
- Headache
- sleep disturbances — uncommon.
- Bronchospasm in susceptible patients — uncommon.
- Nausea
- diarrhoea
- constipation — uncommon.
- Worsening heart failure (if dose titration too rapid) — uncommon.
Precautions
- Do not use in cardiogenic shock
- decompensated heart failure
- sick sinus syndrome (without pacemaker)
- second
- or third
- degree AV block
- severe bradycardia
- or severe peripheral arterial disease.
- Do not abruptly discontinue — gradually taper to prevent rebound angina and hypertension.
- Use with caution in reactive airway disease (asthma/COPD) — may cause bronchospasm.
- May mask symptoms of hypoglycaemia.
- Caution in patients with phaeochromocytoma — use with alpha
- blocker first.
- Caution with concurrent use of calcium channel blockers
- antiarrhythmics
- or other antihypertensives.
- Keep out of reach of children.
