Asolan 0.5 mg

Indication

Asolan (Alprazolam 0.5 mg) is a benzodiazepine anxiolytic used for the short-term management of anxiety disorders, panic disorder (with or without agoraphobia), and anxiety associated with depression. It enhances the effect of GABA, a neurotransmitter that inhibits activity in the brain.

Adults: For anxiety: 0.25–0.5 mg three times daily; may be increased as needed up to a maximum of 4 mg/day in divided doses. For panic disorder: starting at 0.5 mg three times daily, up to a maximum of 10 mg/day. Elderly or debilitated patients: start at 0.25 mg 2–3 times daily. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration. Do not abruptly discontinue.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
• acute narrow
• angle glaucoma
• or severe respiratory insufficiency.
• Risk of dependence and withdrawal — do not use for longer than 2–4 weeks without medical review.
• Do not abruptly discontinue — taper gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms (seizures
• rebound anxiety).
• Causes sedation and impaired coordination — do not drive or operate machinery.
• Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants (risk of respiratory depression).
• Controlled substance — use only as prescribed.
• Use with caution in depression — risk of suicidal ideation.
• Contraindicated in pregnancy (risk of neonatal withdrawal).
• Keep out of reach of children.
