Avamys 27.5 mcg/spray

Indication

Avamys (Fluticasone Furoate 27.5 mcg/spray) is an intranasal corticosteroid spray used to treat seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in adults and children aged 2 years and over. It relieves nasal symptoms including congestion, sneezing, runny nose, itching, and eye symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis.

Direction

Adults and adolescents (12 years and over): 2 sprays (55 mcg) in each nostril once daily (total 110 mcg/day). Once symptoms are controlled, reduce to 1 spray per nostril once daily. Children 2–11 years: 1 spray (27.5 mcg) in each nostril once daily. Shake the bottle gently before use. Prime the pump before first use.

Side effects

• Epistaxis (nosebleed) — very common.
• Nasal ulceration — uncommon.
• Nasal discomfort
• nasal dryness — uncommon.
• Headache — common.
• Adrenal suppression — rare (with high
• dose or prolonged use).
• Cataract
• glaucoma — very rare.

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with active or quiescent tuberculosis
• fungal or viral infections of the respiratory tract.
• Monitor growth in children using intranasal corticosteroids over prolonged periods.
• Systemic effects of intranasal corticosteroids may occur
• especially at high doses over a long period (adrenal suppression
• growth retardation in children).
• Risk of nasal septal perforation with prolonged use — examine periodically.
• Avoid in patients with recent nasal surgery or trauma until healing is complete.
• Keep out of reach of children.
