Indication

Chlorpheniramine Injection (Chlorpheniramine Maleate 10 mg/1 ml) is a first-generation antihistamine for parenteral (intramuscular or slow intravenous) use. Indicated for severe allergic reactions, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis (as adjunct to adrenaline), and severe pruritus where oral administration is not practical.

Ingredients
  • Chlorpheniramine Maleate
Direction

Adults: 10–20 mg by intramuscular or slow intravenous injection over 1 minute. Maximum dose 40 mg in 24 hours. Children 1–12 months: 250 mcg/kg. Children 1–5 years: 2.5 mg. Children 6–12 years: 5 mg. Administer by qualified healthcare personnel only.

Side effects
  • Sedation
  • drowsiness — very common.
  • Dry mouth
  • urinary retention
  • constipation
  • blurred vision — common (anticholinergic effects).
  • Hypotension with rapid IV injection — common.
  • Paradoxical CNS stimulation (especially in children) — uncommon.
  • Extrapyramidal effects — rare.
Precautions
  • For professional use only — administered by healthcare personnel.
  • Do not use if allergic to chlorpheniramine or piperazine derivatives.
  • Use with caution in patients with closed
  • angle glaucoma
  • urinary retention
  • prostatic hypertrophy
  • or pyloroduodenal obstruction.
  • Use with caution in epilepsy — may lower seizure threshold.
  • Rapid IV injection may cause hypotension and CNS stimulation — always inject slowly.
  • Avoid in neonates and premature infants.
  • Causes significant sedation.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
