Indication
Cefiget oral suspension (cefixime 100 mg/5 mL) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhoea caused by susceptible organisms.

Children 6 months–12 years (body weight): 8 mg/kg/day in a single dose or 4 mg/kg every 12 hours. Usual paediatric dose by weight: 6–10 kg: 2.5 mL twice daily; 10–20 kg: 5 mL twice daily; 20–30 kg: 7.5 mL twice daily. Shake suspension well before use. Course of treatment: 5–14 days depending on infection.
Side effects
- Diarrhoea (most common).
- Nausea
- vomiting
- and abdominal pain.
- Skin rash.
- Headache.
- Rare: severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefixime or other cephalosporins.
- Use with caution in penicillin
- allergic patients (cross
- reactivity possible).
- May cause pseudomembranous colitis — discontinue and treat if severe diarrhoea occurs.
- Complete the full course of antibiotics even if symptoms improve.
- Keep out of reach of children.
