Coveram 5 mg / 10 mg

Indication

Coveram is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive used for the treatment of essential hypertension in adults whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled on either component alone. It combines an ACE inhibitor (perindopril) with a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine).

Ingredients

• perindopril arginine
• amlodipine

Direction

Adults: 1 tablet once daily, preferably in the morning before a meal. The dose must be titrated by a physician based on blood pressure response. Do not exceed 10 mg perindopril / 10 mg amlodipine per day.

Side effects

• Dry persistent cough (ACE inhibitor class effect).
• Headache
• dizziness
• and flushing.
• Peripheral oedema (ankles).
• Palpitations.
• Hypotension.
• Rare: angioedema (serious — discontinue immediately).

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to perindopril (or other ACE inhibitors)
• amlodipine
• or history of ACE inhibitor
• induced angioedema.
• Contraindicated during the second and third trimester of pregnancy — can cause foetal harm.
• Monitor renal function
• serum potassium
• and blood pressure when initiating therapy.
• Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis
• aortic stenosis
• or severe hepatic impairment.
• Risk of hypotension
• especially on first dose — patients should be seated or lying when initiating.
• Avoid concurrent use of potassium supplements or potassium
• sparing diuretics without monitoring.
• Keep out of reach of children.
