Indication

GABIX 300 mg (gabapentin) is an anticonvulsant used as adjunctive therapy for partial seizures with or without secondary generalisation in adults and children over 6 years. Also used for peripheral neuropathic pain (diabetic neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia) in adults.

Epilepsy (adults and children over 12): Start 300 mg three times daily on Day 1-3, titrate to 900–3,600 mg/day in 3 divided doses. Neuropathic pain (adults): Start 300 mg Day 1, titrate to 1,800 mg/day over 3 days. Maximum: 3,600 mg/day. Reduce dose in renal impairment.

  • Ataxia and coordination problems.
  • Weight gain.
  • Peripheral oedema.
  • Nausea and vomiting.
  • Nystagmus.
Precautions
  • Do not stop abruptly — taper to avoid withdrawal seizures.
  • May cause somnolence and dizziness — avoid driving until effects known.
  • Dose reduction required in renal impairment.
  • Risk of misuse
  • dependence
  • and respiratory depression (especially with opioids).
  • Monitor for suicidal ideation.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
