Ceftri Medico 1 g

Indication

Ceftri Medico (ceftriaxone 1 g) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic for parenteral use. It is used for the treatment of severe bacterial infections including septicaemia, meningitis, pneumonia, peritonitis, pyelonephritis, complicated urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and gonorrhoea.

Direction

Adults: 1–2 g once daily by IV infusion or deep IM injection. Meningitis: up to 4 g once daily. Gonorrhoea: 500 mg single IM dose. Children: 50–100 mg/kg/day (max 4 g/day). Reconstitute and administer as directed by a healthcare professional.

Side effects

• Injection site pain and phlebitis.
• Diarrhoea
• nausea.
• Skin rash.
• Eosinophilia and thrombocytosis.
• Biliary sludge (ceftriaxone
• calcium precipitates in bile).
• Rare: severe allergic reactions
• haemolytic anaemia
• pseudomembranous colitis.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporins.
• Cross
• sensitivity with penicillins — use with caution in penicillin
• allergic patients.
• Do not mix with calcium
• containing intravenous solutions (including Ringer's lactate) — risk of precipitation.
• Contraindicated in neonates (under 28 days) with hyperbilirubinaemia or on calcium
• containing IV fluids.
• Monitor for Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea.
• Keep out of reach of children.
