Indication
Used for the short-term relief of anxiety and tension states, and as an adjunct in the management of anxiety associated with depression.
Ingredients
- Bromazepam
Direction
Adults: 1.5–3 mg (in divided doses) to up to 18 mg daily depending on severity. Usual dose is 6–12 mg per day in divided doses. Elderly: start with lower doses. Duration of treatment should be as short as possible; re-evaluate regularly. Take orally with or without food.
Side effects
- Common: sedation
- drowsiness
- fatigue
- muscle weakness.
- Anterograde amnesia
- confusion (especially in the elderly).
- Dependence and withdrawal symptoms on prolonged use.
- Paradoxical reactions (agitation
- anxiety
- irritability) may occur.
- Rare: blood disorders
- jaundice.
Precautions
- Risk of dependence and withdrawal
- do not stop abruptly.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines.
- Contraindicated in acute narrow
- angle glaucoma
- severe respiratory insufficiency
- sleep apnea syndrome.
- Avoid in patients with a history of alcohol or drug abuse.
- Use with extreme caution in the elderly (risk of falls and sedation).
- Avoid driving or operating machinery.
- Avoid concomitant use with alcohol or other CNS depressants.
- Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Keep out of reach of children.
