Indication
Used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery.
Ingredients
- Ondansetron Hydrochloride
Direction
Adults: For chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, 8 mg taken 1–2 hours before chemotherapy, then 8 mg 12 hours later. For post-operative nausea and vomiting, 4 mg by slow IV injection or IM at induction of anaesthesia. Children (4 mg formulation): Dosing is weight-based; consult a physician. Take orally with or without food.
Side effects
- Common: headache
- constipation
- sensation of warmth or flushing.
- Uncommon: diarrhea
- dizziness.
- Rare: hypersensitivity reactions
- transient vision disturbances.
- Rare: QT interval prolongation
- arrhythmias.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ondansetron or other 5
- HT3 antagonists.
- Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
- May prolong QT interval
- use with caution in patients with cardiac arrhythmias or electrolyte abnormalities.
- Avoid concomitant use with apomorphine.
- Serotonin syndrome may occur
- especially with other serotonergic drugs.
- Keep out of reach of children.
