Diamicron MR 30 mg

Indication

Used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, physical exercise, and weight reduction alone are not sufficient to control blood glucose levels.

Ingredients

• Gliclazide

Direction

Adults: Initial dose of 30 mg once daily with breakfast. Dose may be adjusted by increments of 30 mg every 4 weeks based on blood glucose response. Maximum dose is 120 mg per day. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew. Take with food to reduce risk of hypoglycemia.

Side effects

• Common: hypoglycemia (especially with irregular meals or strenuous exercise).
• Gastrointestinal: nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhea
• constipation
• abdominal pain.
• Rare: blood disorders (thrombocytopenia
• agranulocytosis
• hemolytic anemia).
• Rare: elevated liver enzymes
• hepatitis.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in type 1 diabetes
• diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Contraindicated in severe renal or hepatic impairment.
• Contraindicated with miconazole.
• Risk of hypoglycemia
• monitor blood glucose regularly.
• Use with caution in the elderly (increased risk of hypoglycemia).
• Alcohol may potentiate hypoglycemic effect.
• Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children.
