Indication

Used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are not adequately controlled on metformin alone or who are already on a combination of empagliflozin and metformin.

Ingredients

• Empagliflozin
• Metformin Hydrochloride

Direction

Adults: Take twice daily with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. The dose is individualized based on the patient's current regimen. Empagliflozin 12.5 mg / Metformin 1000 mg twice daily is the maximum dose. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.

Side effects

• Common: genital mycotic infections

• Uncommon: hypoglycemia when used with insulin or sulfonylureas.
• Rare: lactic acidosis (metformin
• serious).
• Rare: diabetic ketoacidosis.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m² or severe renal impairment.
• Metformin: risk of lactic acidosis
• contraindicated in renal failure
• hepatic impairment
• excessive alcohol intake.
• Empagliflozin: risk of diabetic ketoacidosis and genital/urinary infections.
• Withhold before iodinated contrast procedures and surgery.
• Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Not for use in type 1 diabetes.
• Monitor renal function regularly.
• Keep out of reach of children.
