Indication
Used to reduce fever and to relieve mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, ear pain, and musculoskeletal pain. Also used as an anti-inflammatory agent for conditions such as juvenile arthritis.
Ingredients
- Ibuprofen
Direction
Children (oral suspension 100 mg/5 mL): Weight-based dosing — typically 5–10 mg/kg per dose every 6–8 hours as needed. Do not exceed 40 mg/kg/day. Adults: 200–400 mg every 4–6 hours; do not exceed 1200 mg in 24 hours (OTC). Always use the oral syringe or measuring device provided. Take with food or milk to reduce stomach upset.
Side effects
- Common: nausea
- vomiting
- abdominal pain
- indigestion.
- Gastrointestinal: peptic ulceration
- bleeding.
- Rare: renal impairment
- fluid retention.
- Rare: hypersensitivity reactions (rash
- bronchospasm).
Precautions
- Do not use in children under 6 months unless directed by a doctor.
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ibuprofen or other NSAIDs.
- Avoid in patients with active peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.
- Use with caution in patients with asthma (may precipitate bronchospasm).
- Avoid use in the third trimester of pregnancy.
- Risk of renal impairment in dehydrated patients.
- Keep out of reach of children.
