ERY P.P.M 500mg

Indication

A macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections including respiratory tract infections (pneumonia, bronchitis), skin and soft tissue infections, ear infections, and as an alternative to penicillin in penicillin-allergic patients.

Ingredients

• Erythromycin

Direction

Adults: 250–500 mg every 6 hours, or 500 mg–1 g every 12 hours, taken on an empty stomach or with food if gastric upset occurs. Duration as directed by physician. Children: dose based on weight, as directed by physician.

Side effects

• Nausea
• vomiting
• and abdominal cramps (most common).
• Diarrhoea.
• Hepatotoxicity with prolonged high doses.
• Hearing loss with high doses.
• Allergic reactions.

Precautions

• Inform physician of all medications
• erythromycin interacts with many drugs (e.g. warfarin
• statins
• theophylline).
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease.
• Can prolong QT interval
• avoid in patients with cardiac arrhythmias.
• Do not use with terfenadine
• astemizole
• or cisapride.
• Complete the full course of treatment.
