Indication
Used to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise, when treatment with both glimepiride and metformin is appropriate.
Ingredients
- Glimepiride
- Metformin HCl
Direction
Adults: take orally once or twice daily with meals, as directed by a physician. Dose is individualised based on blood glucose levels. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.
Side effects
- Hypoglycaemia.
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea
- abdominal discomfort.
- Lactic acidosis (rare but serious with metformin).
- Weight gain (glimepiride).
- Vitamin B12 deficiency with long
- term metformin use.
Precautions
- Not for use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Contraindicated in renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min)
- hepatic impairment
- and heart failure.
- Hold metformin before contrast procedures.
- Risk of hypoglycaemia
- monitor blood glucose regularly.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
- Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
