Indication

Used to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise, when treatment with both glimepiride and metformin is appropriate.

Ingredients

• Glimepiride
• Metformin HCl

Direction

Adults: take orally once or twice daily with meals, as directed by a physician. Dose is individualised based on blood glucose levels. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew.

Side effects

• Hypoglycaemia.
• Nausea
• vomiting
• diarrhoea
• abdominal discomfort.
• Lactic acidosis (rare but serious with metformin).
• Weight gain (glimepiride).
• Vitamin B12 deficiency with long
• term metformin use.

Precautions

• Not for use in type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Contraindicated in renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min)

• and heart failure.
• Hold metformin before contrast procedures.
• Risk of hypoglycaemia
• monitor blood glucose regularly.
• Avoid excessive alcohol consumption.
• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
