Indication
POSTPIL (Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg) is an emergency contraceptive pill used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure. It is not intended for regular contraceptive use.
Ingredients
- Levonorgestrel
Direction
Take one tablet (1.5 mg) as soon as possible, within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected intercourse. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is. Not for regular use.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting.
- Irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting.
- Headache
- dizziness.
- Breast tenderness.
- Fatigue.
- Lower abdominal pain.
Precautions
- Not for use as a regular contraceptive.
- Not effective if implantation has already occurred
- will not terminate an established pregnancy.
- Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or HIV.
- Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease.
- Medications that induce liver enzymes (e.g. rifampicin
- certain anticonvulsants) may reduce efficacy.
- Consult a doctor if pregnancy is suspected or if next menstrual period is more than 5 days late.
- Not for use by women with confirmed pregnancy.
- Keep out of reach of children.
