Indication

Sulpiride DNP 50 (Sulpiride 50 mg) is an atypical antipsychotic and gastroprokinetic agent used for the treatment of schizophrenia, acute psychosis, and as an adjunct for gastroparesis and functional gastrointestinal disorders such as nausea and dyspepsia.

Direction

For psychiatric use (adults): 200–800 mg/day in divided doses, adjusted by a psychiatrist. For gastrointestinal use (adults): 50 mg 3 times daily before meals. Dosage must be individualized by a physician.

Side effects

• Extrapyramidal symptoms (tremor
• rigidity
• akathisia).
• Tardive dyskinesia with long
• term use.
• Elevated prolactin levels (galactorrhea
• gynecomastia
• amenorrhea).
• Drowsiness
• insomnia.
• QT prolongation.
• Weight gain.
• Rare: neuroleptic malignant syndrome.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with pheochromocytoma.
• Contraindicated with concomitant use of dopamine agonists (levodopa
• bromocriptine).
• Caution in patients with renal impairment
• dose reduction required.
• May elevate prolactin levels
• caution in patients with prolactin
• dependent tumors.
• Risk of tardive dyskinesia with long
• term use.
• Caution in epileptic patients.
• May prolong QT interval
• caution with other QT
• prolonging drugs.
• Keep out of reach of children.
