Mebentox 500mg

Indication

Mebendazole 500 mg is a broad-spectrum anthelmintic used for the treatment of intestinal roundworm infections including enterobiasis (pinworms), trichuriasis (whipworm), ascariasis (roundworm), and hookworm infections, as well as mixed helminth infections.

Direction

Adults and children over 2 years: For enterobiasis: 100 mg as a single dose; repeat after 2–3 weeks if reinfestation is suspected. For other helminth infections: 500 mg as a single dose. Tablets may be chewed, swallowed, or crushed.

Side effects

• Transient abdominal pain
• diarrhea (especially in heavy worm burden).
• Nausea
• vomiting.
• Flatulence.
• Elevated liver enzymes (rare
• with high doses or prolonged use).
• Leukopenia (rare).

Precautions

• Not recommended for children under 2 years.
• Use with caution in patients with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
• Not recommended in pregnancy (especially first trimester) — teratogenic in animals.
• All household members should be treated simultaneously for pinworm infection.
• Maintain good hygiene (handwashing
• clean underwear) during treatment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
