Indication
Yasmin is a combined oral contraceptive used for the prevention of pregnancy. It may also be used to treat moderate acne vulgaris and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive.
Ingredients
- Drospirenone
- Ethinylestradiol
Direction
Take 1 tablet daily for 21 consecutive days, followed by a 7-day tablet-free interval, starting on the first day of the menstrual cycle or as directed by a physician. Tablets should be taken at the same time each day.
Side effects
- Nausea
- abdominal pain.
- Headache
- mood changes.
- Breast tenderness.
- Spotting or breakthrough bleeding.
- Decreased libido.
- Weight changes.
- Venous thromboembolism (rare but serious).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with a history of venous or arterial thromboembolism.
- Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic disease
- migraine with aura
- or uncontrolled hypertension.
- Increases the risk of blood clots
- stroke
- and heart attack
- especially in smokers over 35 years.
- Do not use in pregnancy or suspected pregnancy.
- Drospirenone has antimineralocorticoid activity — monitor potassium in patients on potassium
- sparing drugs.
- Regular breast and pelvic examinations recommended.
- May reduce effectiveness of certain medications and vice versa.
- Not protective against sexually transmitted infections.
