Nexium 40mg

Indication

Nexium (Esomeprazole 40 mg) is a proton pump inhibitor used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and to prevent gastric ulcers associated with NSAID use. It works by irreversibly blocking the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells, reducing acid secretion.

Direction

Adults: 40 mg once daily, taken at least 30–60 minutes before a meal. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew. For GERD maintenance, 20 mg once daily may be used. Duration as directed by a physician.

Precautions

• Do not use if allergic to esomeprazole or any other proton pump inhibitor (PPI).
• Long
• term use may increase risk of Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhea.
• May reduce magnesium levels (hypomagnesaemia) with prolonged use
• monitor electrolytes.
• Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
• May mask symptoms of gastric cancer
• rule out malignancy before starting therapy.
• May reduce absorption of drugs dependent on gastric pH (e.g.
• ketoconazole
• atazanavir
• iron salts).
• Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Keep out of reach of children.
