Indication
Tranex (Tranexamic Acid 500 mg/5 mL injection) is an antifibrinolytic agent used to prevent or reduce bleeding in surgical procedures, trauma, heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia), and hereditary angioedema. It works by inhibiting plasminogen activation, thereby reducing fibrinolysis.

Direction
Adults (IV/IM): Typically 500–1000 mg (5–10 mL) administered slowly intravenously two to three times daily, or as directed by a physician. Rate of IV injection should not exceed 1 mL/min to avoid hypotension. Dose and duration should be individualised based on indication.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- Hypotension with rapid IV injection
- Dizziness
- Thromboembolic events (rare)
- Allergic skin reactions (rare)
- Visual disturbances with prolonged use
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to tranexamic acid.
- Contraindicated in patients with active thromboembolic disease or history of thrombosis.
- Contraindicated in subarachnoid haemorrhage.
- Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
- dose reduction may be required.
- May cause visual disturbances with long
- term use
- discontinue and seek ophthalmological assessment if this occurs.
- Use with caution with hormonal contraceptives (increased thrombotic risk).
- Inject slowly to minimise risk of hypotension.
- Keep out of reach of children.
