Indication
Zanoflox (Ofloxacin) is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhoea, chlamydia), and ophthalmic infections.
Ingredients
- Ofloxacin
Direction
Adults: Oral — typically 200–400 mg twice daily depending on infection type and severity, for 7–14 days. Take with or without food. Drink plenty of fluids. Complete the full course as prescribed.
Side effects
- Nausea
- diarrhea
- vomiting
- abdominal discomfort
- Headache
- dizziness
- insomnia
- Photosensitivity
- Tendinitis or tendon rupture (rare but serious)
- Peripheral neuropathy (rare)
- QT interval prolongation (rare)
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to ofloxacin or any fluoroquinolone.
- May cause tendon rupture (especially Achilles tendon)
- stop immediately if tendon pain occurs.
- May exacerbate myasthenia gravis.
- Avoid in patients with history of QT prolongation or concurrent use of QT
- prolonging drugs.
- May cause photosensitivity
- avoid excessive sunlight and use sunscreen.
- Not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
- Avoid in growing children and adolescents (risk of arthropathy in animal studies).
- Avoid antacids
- iron
- or calcium supplements within 2 hours of taking ofloxacin.
- Keep out of reach of children.
