Metoclopramide 10mg/2ml

Indication

Metoclopramide Injection (10 mg/2 mL) is a dopamine antagonist antiemetic and prokinetic agent used to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting (postoperative, drug-induced, migraine-associated), and to treat gastroparesis and facilitate small bowel intubation.

Direction

Adults: 10 mg by slow IV injection over at least 3 minutes or by IM injection, up to three times daily as needed. Maximum 30 mg/day. Use for the shortest effective duration (maximum 5 days) due to risk of extrapyramidal effects. Administered by a healthcare professional.

Side effects

• Extrapyramidal reactions (dystonia
• akathisia)
• Drowsiness
• fatigue
• Tardive dyskinesia with prolonged use
• Diarrhea
• Hyperprolactinaemia (galactorrhoea
• gynaecomastia)

Precautions

• Do not use for more than 5 days.
• Contraindicated in gastrointestinal haemorrhage
• perforation
• or mechanical obstruction.
• Contraindicated in phaeochromocytoma.
• Avoid in patients with Parkinson's disease.
• Risk of extrapyramidal reactions
• especially in young adults and the elderly.
• May cause tardive dyskinesia with prolonged use.
• Avoid concurrent use with other dopamine antagonists.
• Keep out of reach of children.
