Indication
Rovista (Rosuvastatin 10 mg) is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) used to treat primary hypercholesterolaemia and mixed dyslipidaemia, and to reduce cardiovascular events in high-risk patients. It reduces LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides, and raises HDL cholesterol.
Ingredients
- Rosuvastatin
Direction
Adults: 5–20 mg once daily at any time of day, with or without food. Starting dose is typically 5–10 mg; dose may be adjusted by a physician up to 40 mg based on response. Swallow tablet whole.
Side effects
- Muscle pain or weakness (myalgia)
- Headache
- Nausea
- constipation
- abdominal pain
- Elevated liver enzymes (transaminases)
- Proteinuria (at higher doses)
- Rhabdomyolysis (rare but serious)
Precautions
- Do not use if allergic to rosuvastatin or any statin.
- Contraindicated in active liver disease
- unexplained persistent transaminase elevations
- severe renal impairment
- or myopathy.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Report unexplained muscle pain
- weakness
- or tenderness immediately (risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis).
- Use with caution with fibrates
- niacin
- cyclosporine
- or antiviral drugs (HIV/hepatitis C protease inhibitors).
- Asian patients may require lower doses due to higher plasma levels.
- Monitor liver function tests before and periodically during therapy.
- Keep out of reach of children.
