Indication

Phosphalugel is an antacid used for the symptomatic relief of heartburn, acid reflux, sour stomach, and the pain associated with gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. It also forms a protective coating on gastric mucosa.

Ingredients

• Colloidal Aluminium Phosphate

Direction

Adults: 1–2 sachets (20 g each) taken 2–3 times daily, preferably 1–2 hours after meals and at bedtime. Dilute in half a glass of water or take undiluted. Children: consult a physician.

Side effects

• Constipation (most common
• due to aluminium content).
• Nausea or chalky aftertaste.
• Rarely: hyperaluminaemia with prolonged use
• especially in renal failure.

Precautions

• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment as aluminium may accumulate.
• May reduce the absorption of other medications
• separate administration by at least 2 hours.
• Avoid prolonged use without medical supervision.
• Contains aluminium
• use with caution in patients with phosphate depletion syndromes.
• Keep out of reach of children.
