NOPRES 20mg

Indication

Fluoxetine 20 mg is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant used for the treatment of major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa, and panic disorder.

Direction

Adults: The usual starting dose for depression is 20 mg once daily in the morning. Dose may be increased to a maximum of 60 mg/day by the prescribing physician. For OCD: 20–60 mg/day. Always follow the prescriber's instructions; do not adjust dose without medical advice.

Side effects

• Nausea
• diarrhoea
• dry mouth.
• Insomnia
• headache
• dizziness.
• Decreased libido or sexual dysfunction.
• Sweating
• tremor.
• Rare: serotonin syndrome
• hyponatraemia (low sodium)
• QT prolongation.

Precautions

• Do not use in combination with MAO inhibitors (within 14 days of stopping an MAOI
• or within 5 weeks of stopping fluoxetine before starting an MAOI).
• Increased risk of suicidal thoughts may occur
• particularly in children
• adolescents
• and young adults
• monitor closely.
• Use with caution in patients with seizure disorders
• bipolar disorder
• or hepatic impairment.
• May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
• Do not discontinue abruptly
• taper dose under medical supervision.
• Keep out of reach of children.
