Micardis 40mg

Indication

Telmisartan 40 mg is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults, and for the reduction of cardiovascular morbidity in adults with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes with target-organ damage.

Direction

Adults: The usual starting dose is 40 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted by a physician to 20–80 mg once daily based on blood pressure response. Take at the same time each day with or without food.

Side effects

• Dizziness
• headache.
• Back pain
• sinusitis.
• Hyperkalemia (elevated potassium).
• Renal impairment (rare).
• Rare: angioedema.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in pregnancy (can cause fetal injury or death)
• use effective contraception.
• Contraindicated in patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis or severe hepatic impairment.
• Avoid concurrent use with other renin
• angiotensin system agents (e.g.
• ACE inhibitors
• aliskiren) in renal/cardiac/diabetic patients.
• Monitor renal function
• electrolytes (particularly potassium)
• and blood pressure regularly.
• Use with caution in patients with volume or salt depletion.
• Keep out of reach of children.
