Indication
Gemfibrozil 300 mg is a fibrate lipid-regulating agent used to reduce elevated triglyceride levels in patients with hypertriglyceridaemia and to increase HDL cholesterol, as adjunct therapy to dietary measures.
Ingredients

Direction
Adults: The usual dose is 300 mg twice daily (600 mg total), taken 30 minutes before morning and evening meals. Full dose is 1200 mg/day in two divided doses of 600 mg each (standard schedule); adjust per physician's prescription as 300 mg capsules require 2 capsules per dose.
Side effects
- Gastrointestinal upset (dyspepsia
- nausea
- diarrhoea
- abdominal pain).
- Headache
- dizziness.
- Muscle pain (myalgia).
- Rare: cholelithiasis (gallstones)
- myopathy
- rhabdomyolysis.
- Rare: elevated liver enzymes.
Precautions
- Contraindicated in severe renal or hepatic impairment
- pre
- existing gallbladder disease
- and in combination with repaglinide.
- Risk of myopathy or rhabdomyolysis
- especially in combination with statins — avoid concurrent use where possible.
- Increases the anticoagulant effect of warfarin
- monitor INR closely.
- Regular liver function and full blood count monitoring recommended.
- Keep out of reach of children.
