Indication
Loperamide Hydrochloride (Loramide 2 mg) is used for the treatment of acute non-specific diarrhoea and chronic diarrhoea associated with inflammatory bowel disease. It reduces the frequency of stools and improves stool consistency.
Ingredients
- Loperamide Hydrochloride
Direction
Adults: Initial dose 4 mg (2 capsules/tablets), then 2 mg after each loose stool. Maximum 16 mg per day. Children 8–12 years: 2 mg three times daily on the first day; maintenance per response. Not recommended in children under 2 years.
Side effects
- Common: constipation
- flatulence
- nausea
- abdominal cramping.
- Uncommon: dizziness
- dry mouth
- headache.
- Rare: allergic reactions
- skin rash.
- Rare: paralytic ileus in high doses.
Precautions
- Do not use in patients with acute dysentery (bloody stools and fever).
- Discontinue if abdominal distension develops.
- Use with caution in patients with liver disease.
- Do not use in children under 2 years.
- Consult a doctor if diarrhoea persists more than 2 days.
- Keep out of reach of children.
