Loramide 2mg

Indication

Loperamide Hydrochloride (Loramide 2 mg) is used for the treatment of acute non-specific diarrhoea and chronic diarrhoea associated with inflammatory bowel disease. It reduces the frequency of stools and improves stool consistency.

Direction

Adults: Initial dose 4 mg (2 capsules/tablets), then 2 mg after each loose stool. Maximum 16 mg per day. Children 8–12 years: 2 mg three times daily on the first day; maintenance per response. Not recommended in children under 2 years.

Side effects

• Common: constipation
• flatulence
• nausea
• abdominal cramping.
• Uncommon: dizziness
• dry mouth
• headache.
• Rare: allergic reactions
• skin rash.
• Rare: paralytic ileus in high doses.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with acute dysentery (bloody stools and fever).
• Discontinue if abdominal distension develops.
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease.
• Do not use in children under 2 years.
• Consult a doctor if diarrhoea persists more than 2 days.
• Keep out of reach of children.
