Spascinol 40 mg/4 mL

Indication

Spascinol (Phloroglucinol dihydrate + Trimethylphloroglucinol) is an antispasmodic agent used to relieve smooth muscle spasms in conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, urinary tract spasms, biliary colic, and dysmenorrhoea.

Ingredients

• Phloroglucinol dihydrate
• Trimethylphloroglucinol

Direction

Adults: one ampoule (40 mg/4 mL) by slow IV injection or intramuscular injection, which may be repeated after 4–6 hours as required. For oral forms (if available): typically 80 mg three times daily. Follow prescriber instructions.

Side effects

• Generally well tolerated.
• Rare: allergic reactions
• hypersensitivity.

Precautions

• Do not use in patients with hypersensitivity to phloroglucinol.
• Not for use as a primary treatment for appendicitis or other acute surgical conditions.
• IV injection should be administered slowly.
• Use with caution in pregnancy (consult a physician).
• Keep out of reach of children.
