Indication

Unwanted-72 (Levonorgestrel 1.5 mg) is a progestogen-only emergency contraceptive (morning-after pill) used to prevent pregnancy when taken as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse or contraceptive failure, within 72 hours (3 days).

Direction

Take one tablet (1.5 mg) as soon as possible, and no later than 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. The sooner it is taken, the more effective it is. If vomiting occurs within 3 hours of taking the tablet, take another tablet immediately.

Side effects

• Common: nausea
• headache
• dizziness
• abdominal pain
• fatigue.
• Common: irregular or delayed menstrual bleeding.
• Uncommon: vomiting
• breast tenderness.

Precautions

• Not intended for regular use as a contraceptive.
• Not effective if already pregnant.
• Does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of ectopic pregnancy.
• Drugs that induce liver enzymes (e.g.
• rifampicin
• anticonvulsants) may reduce efficacy.
• Not for use in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
• Keep out of reach of children.
