Starcef 200 mg

Indication

Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections including urinary tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections (including acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis), otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and uncomplicated gonorrhoea. Cefixime is a third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic.

Direction

Adults and children over 12 years: 200–400 mg once daily or 100–200 mg twice daily for 7–14 days depending on the infection. For uncomplicated urinary tract infections: 400 mg once daily for 3–7 days. Take with or without food; take with food if gastrointestinal upset occurs.

Precautions

• Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
• Use with caution in patients with penicillin allergy (cross
• reactivity possible).
• Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve.
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment — dose adjustment may be required.
• May alter gut flora — risk of antibiotic
• associated diarrhoea or C. difficile infection.
• Keep out of reach of children.
