Indication
Topical treatment of acne vulgaris. Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that reduces Propionibacterium acnes (Cutibacterium acnes) colonisation in the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Ingredients
- Clindamycin
Direction
Adults and adolescents: Apply a thin layer to affected acne areas on clean, dry skin twice daily (morning and evening). Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and mucous membranes.
Side effects
- Skin dryness and peeling
- Erythema (redness)
- Burning or stinging sensation
- Oily skin
- Gastrointestinal effects (rare with topical use)
- Allergic contact dermatitis
Precautions
- For external use only.
- Discontinue if severe diarrhoea or pseudomembranous colitis develops — clindamycin (including topical) has been associated with Clostridium difficile
- associated diarrhoea.
- Avoid use near the eyes
- mouth
- and mucous membranes.
- Do not use in patients with a history of antibiotic
- associated colitis.
- Prolonged topical antibiotic use may promote antibiotic resistance.
- Use with caution in combination with other topical acne agents (may cause excessive skin irritation).
- Keep out of reach of children.
