Indication

Topical treatment of acne vulgaris. Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that reduces Propionibacterium acnes (Cutibacterium acnes) colonisation in the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Ingredients
  • Clindamycin
Direction

Adults and adolescents: Apply a thin layer to affected acne areas on clean, dry skin twice daily (morning and evening). Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and mucous membranes.

Side effects
  • Skin dryness and peeling
  • Erythema (redness)
  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Oily skin
  • Gastrointestinal effects (rare with topical use)
  • Allergic contact dermatitis
Precautions
  • For external use only.
  • Discontinue if severe diarrhoea or pseudomembranous colitis develops — clindamycin (including topical) has been associated with Clostridium difficile
  • associated diarrhoea.
  • Avoid use near the eyes
  • mouth
  • and mucous membranes.
  • Do not use in patients with a history of antibiotic
  • associated colitis.
  • Prolonged topical antibiotic use may promote antibiotic resistance.
  • Use with caution in combination with other topical acne agents (may cause excessive skin irritation).
  • Keep out of reach of children.
