Panto-Denk 40 40 mg

Indication

Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and conditions causing excess stomach acid such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It reduces acid production in the stomach to relieve heartburn, acid regurgitation, and epigastric pain.

• Pantoprazole

Direction

Adults: 40 mg once daily, preferably in the morning before a meal. Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew. For GERD and erosive esophagitis, typical treatment duration is 4–8 weeks. Dose adjustments may be required in severe hepatic impairment.

Side effects

• Headache
• Diarrhoea or constipation
• Nausea and vomiting
• Flatulence and abdominal pain
• Dizziness
• Rash or itching (rare)
• Hypomagnesaemia with prolonged use (rare)
• Clostridium difficile
• associated diarrhoea (rare)

Precautions

• Not recommended for use in children under 12 years.
• Use with caution in patients with severe liver disease
• dose reduction may be needed.
• Long
• term use (>1 year) may increase risk of bone fractures
• hypomagnesaemia
• and vitamin B12 deficiency.
• May mask symptoms of gastric cancer
• exclude malignancy before initiating therapy.
• Avoid in patients with known hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or other PPIs.
• May interact with anticoagulants (warfarin)
• methotrexate
• clopidogrel
• and HIV protease inhibitors.
• Do not take if pregnant or breastfeeding unless directed by a doctor.
