Indication
Adjunct to diet for the treatment of type 2 (non-insulin dependent) diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight patients, when dietary management alone does not result in adequate glycaemic control.
Ingredients
- Metformin Hydrochloride 500mg
Direction
Initial dose: 500mg two or three times daily with or after meals. Maintenance dose adjusted according to blood glucose response. Maximum: 3g daily in divided doses.
Side effects
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Abdominal discomfort
- Metallic taste
- Loss of appetite
- Lactic acidosis (rare but serious)
Precautions
- Contraindicated in renal impairment
- Contraindicated in hepatic impairment
- Avoid in conditions with risk of tissue hypoxia
- Discontinue before contrast media administration and major surgery
