Indication

Pregabalin is used to treat neuropathic pain (nerve pain) associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, post-herpetic neuralgia, and spinal cord injury. It is also used as adjunctive therapy for partial-onset seizures in adults and for the treatment of generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) and fibromyalgia.

Ingredients
  • Pregabalin 75mg
Direction

Adults: The usual starting dose is 75 mg twice daily or 50 mg three times daily. Dose may be increased to 150 mg twice daily (300 mg/day) after 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability. Maximum dose is 600 mg/day. Take with or without food. Swallow whole with water. Dose must be adjusted in renal impairment. Not indicated for use in children under 18 years for most indications.

Side effects
  • Dizziness (very common).
  • Somnolence / drowsiness (very common).
  • Headache.
  • Blurred or double vision.
  • Weight gain.
  • Peripheral oedema (swelling of hands and feet).
  • Dry mouth.
  • Constipation.
  • Nausea.
  • Ataxia (impaired coordination).
  • Memory impairment or difficulty concentrating.
  • Mood changes
  • euphoria
  • confusion.
  • Increased risk of suicidal ideation (rare but serious).
Precautions
  • Do not stop abruptly — taper dose gradually to avoid withdrawal symptoms (insomnia

  • Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
