Indication
Treatment of fungal (dermatophyte) infections of the skin, hair and nails.
Ingredients
- Griseofulvin
Direction
Oral route. Use as directed by physician.
Side effects
- Nausea
- vomiting
- diarrhoea.
- Headache.
- Skin rash
- urticaria.
- Photosensitivity.
- Hepatotoxicity (rare).
- Leukopenia (rare).
- Lupus
- like syndrome (rare
- with prolonged use).
Precautions
- Contraindicated in patients with hepatic failure or porphyria.
- Contraindicated in pregnancy — teratogenic.
- Contraindicated in women who are breastfeeding.
- Drug interactions: reduces effectiveness of oral contraceptives
- monitor anticoagulants (warfarin).
- Photosensitivity reactions may occur — avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen.
- Monitor liver function during prolonged therapy.
- May cause lupus
- like syndrome with prolonged use (rare).
- Not recommended in children under 2 years.
